Tactile feedback.. it is more important to understand what technique feels like, and not just what it looks like. I feel like choreography is what is gained most from online

Annika Sheaff asked about privacy issues with FlipGrid
Miri Park
01:32:04
Yes - We will need to vet some of the tools that have not been created for institutional use regarding privacy
Miri Park
01:32:42
If someone looks into a particular app and wants to let me know what they find, I will add it to the Google Doc

FlipGrid is particularly designed for institutional and has myriad privacy options and protections in place. More so than TikTok, IG, etc. for similar interaction experience.

I have a Q about showing video on Zoom —> Is it advisable to have students play video link on their own computers? Or is playback speed usually fast enough to play via a screenshare? It seems like it worked with the tiktok video, but I’m wondering if anyone has any experience. I have a class in a few hours and am hoping to screen video together :)

My q. is about Music Rights - are we covered under our institutional music licensing (ASCAP/BMI) to teach with music online?

question

There was a Q about copywriting music. Autumn Mist Belk says: At my university, we’ve been told we cannot use copyrighted music in online teaching.

When you begin streaming land for music, it is no longer covered under the educational/ institutional umbrella. This is new territory for both sides, but as of now it is not.

01:46:00
Thanks Jen Salk - Will you just paste it here one more time, please?

Lauren Gaul
01:48:09
HI everyone
Miri Park
01:48:10
nope
Autumn Mist Belk
01:48:11
For video teaching, I’ve done tutorial videos without music, then shared a Spotify playlist for students to be able toads music on their own. (Obviously, not really doable for synchronous classes happening online.)
Miri Park
01:48:30
John Jasperse asks: Does anyone have advice or challenges if we are hoping to work with live accompanists in a synchronous teaching environment?
Elizabeth Kattner
01:48:34
Regarding live streaming productions. When it is does through our university, the copyrights have been covered, and the royalty payments we have made cover official university live streams. It is problematic if you try to do it on your own. Talk to your admin about what you are allowed to do.

01:51:52
if you use the q&A feature, you we can make sure that wwe know that we can direct comments to specific questions and responses can come from multiple people, panelists or not
ac
01:52:49
“not in a zoom place too long” do you have a sense of what the goldilocks amount of time is???
ac
01:53:11
i.e. I cannot be in a VR headset for more than 20 minutes… I get completely sea-sick

01:58:07
to AC: I find as a recipient of instruction that the "goldilocks" time, is effected by putting asynchronous response times in between scheduled synchronous communication. making sure that asynchronous responses aren't always s time-pressured by synchronous communication in the design of your class session
Lizzie Leopold
01:59:36
When you say “asynchronous responses,” does that include like discussion question submissions on Canvas? Or like videos they record and submit?
Miri Park
01:59:41
